Made in China - 2018
This diptych comprises of two hyper realistically drawn parcels. These bubble wrapped mailing envelopes cased two studio gifts I purchased for a friend, near the end of our time spent together. The portrayal of the average mailing bag bears more significance than the item housed within. These life size images were drawn using Persian miniature painting’s technique called “Pardaz” in which every visible grain of the surface is meticulously rendered until desired result is achieved after several layers of application. With the use of the negative space I draw attention to the inaudibility of the subject. Photographing wrapped artwork has become common exercises in my practice. I often use these routine images as references for my subsequent drawings.

RUNG - 2018
This triptych signifies an integral fragment of my life that I refer to as my happy place.  A common practice between a group of 4 friends, playing a game of cards, and the memories made are revisited in this series. The title “Rung” refers to the Urdu equivalent name of the game “Trump”. A post it is drawn to scale, showing tally marks and encrypted symbols. An office post it, typically of trivial usage, turns spotlight on the bond I’ve shared with long lost friends.
